Western Australia’s first whole-of-government Cyber Security Operations Centre launched
Innovation and ICT Minister Dave Kelly announced $1.8 millions of funding in the upcoming State Budget for the establishment of the State Government’s new Cyber Security Operations Centre. The new operations centre will support existing complementary efforts to improve cyber security resilience across government.
NBN Co shows first ‘indicative’ maps for 130 business fibre zones
NBN Co is now providing substantial-stage boundary maps for 130 business fibre zones out of a planned 240 enterprise fibre zones. NBN Co describes the maps as “indicative” – it is not probable to see the boundaries with road-stage accuracy. However, inhabitants or firms within their geographic regions will be capable to draw some sort of inferences.
Microsoft September 2020 Patch Tuesday fixes 129 vulnerabilities
In its monthly patch of security updates, the OS maker patched 129 vulnerabilities across 15 products, ranging from Windows to ASP.NET. All of the vulnerabilities listed above were serious issues, especially the ones impacting Windows (due to the huge attack surface), SharePoint and Dynamics 365 (as these systems are often installed on large enterprise networks). System administrators were advised to review the threat posed by each of the RCE vulnerabilities, and then decide if these security updates needed to be applied right away or delayed for additional testing.
Western Australia government goes all-in on Microsoft
Microsoft has signed a whole-of-government agreement with the Western Australian government to provide its cloud service. The deal will give all of WA’s agencies rights to use Microsoft Azure as well as Teams, Office 365 and Dynamics 365. Agencies will also be able to leverage Windows Virtual Desktop.
